To evaluate the effectiveness of CH as an intracanal medicament compared to no dressing and / or other intracanal medicaments to control postoperative pain in patients with apical periodontitis requiring primary root canal therapy.
We conducted electronic searches in PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus and Cochrane Library, Open Gray, and Google Scholar. A structured Population-Intervention-Comparison-Outcome of the review was as follows: Population: adults who presented with apical periodontitis requiring primary root canal therapy; Intervention: CH intracanal medicament; Comparison: no dressing/other intracanal medicaments; Main Outcome: Postoperative pain. We assessed the risk of bias using Cochrane criteria. Our outcome measures were intensity of pain on a validated scale reported as mean and standard deviation. We performed meta-analysis using the random-effects model. We rated the quality of evidence using GRADE.
We included 18 studies with 1192 participants. The overall risk of bias was moderate. We found a significant improvement in postoperative pain at 24 hours in favor of CH over no intracanal medication (4 trials, n = 226: standardised mean difference: -0.71; [95% confidence interval: -1.38, -0.03]; P = .04; I
Limited evidence suggests that CH may be an effective intracanal medicament for controlling interappointment pain. Combination therapies appear to be more effective than using CH alone. Further research assessing the comparative effectiveness of interventions for managing postoperative pain following root canal therapy is warranted.

Calcium hydroxide as an intracanal medication for postoperative pain during primary root canal therapy: A systematic review and meta-analysis with trial sequential analysis of randomised controlled trials.

Chronic headache (CH) is a condition that includes different subtypes of headaches and that can impair different life domains. Personality traits can play a relevant role both in the development and in coping with this medical condition. The first aim of the present study is to realize a systematic review of the personality traits associated with CH compared to healthy controls; the second objective is to carry out a quantitative meta-analysis with the studies using the same instrument to assess personality traits.
The literature search encompassed articles published from 1988 until December 2022 on the major databases in the field of health and social sciences: PubMed, Scopus, PsychInfo, and Web of Science.
Thirteen studies were included in the systematic review, but only three studies were deeply explored in a meta-analysis since the only ones used a common instrument for personality assessment (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory). According to the meta-analysis, different subtypes of CH patients scored higher than healthy controls on Hypochondriasis and Hysteria Scales. The systematic review showed higher levels of depressive and anxious personality dimensions and pain catastrophizing in CH compared to healthy controls. Moreover, frequent-chronic forms and medication-overuse headache were the most symptomatic and frail categories showing higher levels of dysfunctional personality traits and psychopathological symptoms.
These results seem to confirm a "neurotic profile" in patients suffering from CH. The identification of the main personality traits involved in the onset and maintenance of headache disorders represents an important objective for developing psychological interventions.

Personality in Chronic Headache: A Systematic Review with Meta-Analysis.

To determine the changes in corneal biomechanical parameters in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) in comparison with controls.
Pertinent studies were identified by comprehensively search of PubMed, Embase, the Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, Scopus, the China National Knowledge Infrastructure and the Chinese biomedical disc (CBM) databases. Pooling analyses by random models using the D-L method were performed for corneal hysteresis (CH), the corneal resistance factor (CRF), corneal-compensated intraocular pressure (IOPcc) and Goldmann-correlated intraocular pressure (IOPg).
A total of 15 studies were included in the final analysis, involving 1506 eyes in the diabetic group and 2190 eyes in the control group. The diabetic group had significantly higher CH, CRF, IOPg and IOPcc values than the control group. The pooled mean differences were 1.34 mmHg (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.60-2.08 mmHg, P < 0.001) for IOPg and 0.85 mmHg (95% CI 0.18-1.51 mmHg, P = 0.013) for IOPcc, 0.38 mmHg (95% CI 0.01-0.75, P = 0.047) for CH and 0.63 mmHg (95% CI 0.27-0.98, P = 0.001) for the CRF. Sensitivity analyses using the leave-one-out method showed a consistent significant difference between the groups (all P < 0.001).
Corneal biomechanics changed in the patients with DM. High CH, CRF, IOPcc and IOPg values may be associated factors for diabetes mellitus. Future studies are warranted to clarify the underlying mechanisms and explore the relationship between corneal biomechanics, glaucoma and diabetes mellitus.

Changes in corneal biomechanics in patients with diabetes mellitus: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional bowel disease characterized by abdominal pain or discomfort associated with altered bowel habits. Several clinical studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of acupuncture and moxibustion for IBS. Many systematic reviews of acupuncture and moxibustion for IBS have been published in recent years, but their results are not entirely consistent.
To evaluate the methodological, reporting, and evidence quality of systematic reviews of acupuncture and moxibustion for IBS.
Systematic reviews of acupuncture and moxibustion for IBS published before February 20, 2023 were searched in eight databases: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Data, VIP Database for Chinese Technical Periodicals, and China Biology Medicine. The keywords used for literature search were acupuncture, moxibustion, systematic review, meta-analysis, and irritable bowel syndrome.
Systematic reviews and meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials of acupuncture and moxibustion for IBS were included.
Relevant information was independently extracted by two investigators. The A MeaSurement Tool to Assess systematic Reviews 2 (AMSTAR 2), Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA 2020), and Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) were used to evaluate the methodological quality, reporting quality and evidence quality, respectively.
A total of 342 studies were retrieved and 15 systematic reviews were included. The results of AMSTAR 2 showed low methodological quality in 2 studies and very low methodological quality in the remaining 13 studies, with main issues being failure to register a protocol, incomplete search strategy, not providing a list of excluded studies, incomplete consideration of the risk of bias in the included studies, and a failure to assess the publication bias. The results of PRISMA 2020 showed seriously deficient reporting quality of 2 studies, somewhat deficient reporting quality of 12 studies, and relatively complete reporting quality of 1 study, with the main problems being lack of a complete search strategy, non-availability of a list of excluded studies with justification for their exclusion, not conducting heterogeneity and sensitivity analyses, not evaluating the credibility of the evidence, and not registering the protocol. The results of GRADE showed that the quality of the evidence is low or very low.
Most included systematic reviews interpreted findings to suggest that acupuncture and moxibustion have benefits for IBS. However, there is a need to improve the methodological, reporting and evidence quality of the systematic reviews. Larger, multicenter, rigorously designed randomized controlled trials and high-quality systematic reviews are required to obtain more robust evidence.
