Dynamic navigation may be used for most implant surgery scenarios due to its satisfactory accuracy.

The placebo response of sham acupuncture in patients with primary dysmenorrhea is a substantial factor associated with analgesia. However, the magnitude of the placebo response is unclear.
This meta-analysis assessed the effects of sham acupuncture in patients with primary dysmenorrhea and the factors contributing to these effects.
PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane CENTRAL databases were searched from inception up to August 20, 2022.
Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) using sham acupuncture as a control for female patients of reproductive age with primary dysmenorrhea were included.
Pain intensity, retrospective symptom scale, and health-related quality of life were outcome measures used in these trials. Placebo response was defined as the change in the outcome of interest from baseline to endpoint. We used standardized mean difference (SMD) to estimate the effect size of the placebo response.
Thirteen RCTs were included. The pooled placebo response size for pain intensity was the largest (SMD = -0.99; 95% confidence interval [CI], -1.31 to -0.68), followed by the retrospective symptom scale (Total frequency rating score: SMD = -0.20; 95% CI, -0.80 to -0.39. Average severity score: SMD = -0.35; 95% CI, -0.90 to -0.20) and physical component of SF-36 (SMD = 0.27; 95% CI, -0.17 to 0.72). Studies using blunt-tip needles, single-center trials, studies with a low risk of bias, studies in which patients had a longer disease course, studies in which clinicians had < 5 years of experience, and trials conducted outside Asia were more likely to have a lower placebo response.
Strong placebo response and some relative factors were found in patients with primary dysmenorrhea. PROSPERO registration number: CRD42022304215. Placebo response of sham acupuncture in patients with primary dysmenorrhea: A meta-analysis.

This study was conducted to estimate the effectiveness of marine-derived resources for treating specific diseases, as well as identify the most effective methods for applying such resources in therapeutic applications. Bibliographic databases (PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane) were searched from their inception until May 2023 using Medical Subject Headings terms and text keywords related to seawater, mineral water, or ocean therapy. Fifteen eligible studies were included, involving 1325 participants aged 42.7-63.0 years. In the subgroup analysis based on treatment type, the mean difference was -1.581 (95% CI: -1.889, -1.274) for seawater with sun exposure and -1.210 (95% CI: -1.417, -1.002) for seawater with sun exposure, mud pack application, and sulfur pool therapy. The pooled standardized mean difference was calculated for different outcomes; the results were -1.110 (95% CI: -3.028, 0.806) for osteoarthritis severity, -0.795 (95% CI: -0.982, -0.607) for arthritis pain, -1.623 (95% CI: -2.036, -1.209) for fibromyalgia pain, and -1.498 (95% CI: -1.888, -1.108) for quality of life. Marine therapy is, therefore, promising for treating chronic skin issues, easing musculoskeletal discomfort, and enhancing the quality of life among patients with musculoskeletal pain.

Combined Orthodontic-Surgical Treatment May Be an Effective Choice to Improve Oral Health-Related Quality of Life for Individuals Affected With Severe Dentofacial Deformities.

We performed a systematic review dedicated to pooling evidence for the associations of clinical features with malignant transformation (MT) and recurrence of 3 oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) (actinic cheilitis [AC], oral leukoplakia [OL], and proliferative verrucous leukoplakia [PVL]).
We selected studies that included clinical features and risk factors (age, sex, site, size, appearance, alcohol intake, tobacco use, and sun exposure) of OL, PVL, and AC associated with recurrence and/or MT.
Based on the meta-analysis results, non-homogeneous OL appears to have a 4.53 times higher chance of recurrence after treatment. We also found 6.52 higher chances of MT of non-homogeneous OL. Another clinical feature related to higher MT chances is the location (floor of the mouth and tongue has 4.48 higher chances) and the size (OL with >200 mm
Our study showed that some clinical features may indicate greater chances of recurrence after treatment and MT of OPMD.

Clinical predictors of malignant transformation and recurrence in oral potentially malignant disorders: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Nutritional status is a significant issue in an aging society; however, the impact of the nutritional status of older individuals using long-term care services on the caregiving burden remains unclear. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to investigate the impact of nutritional issues on adverse outcomes in older individuals using long-term care services.
We used data from the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, CINAHL, and Ichu-shi Web databases. Original articles published in English or Japanese between January 2000 and July 2022 were included. The inclusion criteria were interventional and observational studies on individuals using long-term care services with aged ≥65 years and a focus on body weight or weight loss. Data on adverse outcomes related to caregiving burden, including the number of people requiring care, mortality, complications, activities of daily living (ADL), and quality of life, were collected.
The literature search yielded 7873 studies, of which 35 were ultimately included. Seven observational studies investigated mortality outcomes, and seven examined ADL outcomes. The meta-analysis revealed significantly higher mortality rates in individuals classified as underweight (BMI <18.5 kg/m
Our findings indicate that underweight and weight loss are significantly associated with increased mortality in older individuals using long-term care services. Therefore, appropriate weight management is recommended for this population. However, further research is necessary owing to the high heterogeneity observed in this study.

Relationship between nutritional status and clinical outcomes among older individuals using long-term care services: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) has been proven to be an ideal choice for treating unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (uHCC). HAIC-based treatment showed great potential for treating uHCC. However, large-scale studies on HAIC-based treatments and meta-analyses of first-line treatments for uHCC are lacking.
To investigate better first-line treatment options for uHCC and to assess the safety and efficacy of HAIC combined with angiogenesis inhibitors, programmed cell death of protein 1 (PD-1) and its ligand (PD-L1) blockers (triple therapy) under real-world conditions.
Several electronic databases were searched to identify eligible randomized controlled trials for this meta-analysis. Study-level pooled analyses of hazard ratios (HRs) and odds ratios (ORs) were performed. This was a retrospective single-center study involving 442 patients with uHCC who received triple therapy or angiogenesis inhibitors plus PD-1/PD-L1 blockades (AIPB) at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center from January 2018 to April 2023. Propensity score matching (PSM) was performed to balance the bias between the groups. The Kaplan-Meier method and cox regression were used to analyse the survival data, and the log-rank test was used to compare the suvival time between the groups.

This meta-analysis suggests that HAIC-based treatments are likely to be the best choice for uHCC. Our findings confirm that triple therapy is more effective for uHCC patients than AIPB.

Hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy with anti-angiogenesis agents and immune checkpoint inhibitors for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma and meta-analysis.

There is conflicting observational evidence regarding the association between skin cancer and celiac disease (CD). The purpose of this review was to investigate the incidence rate ratio (IRR) of skin cancer incidence between patients with and without CD. MEDLINE and EMBASE databases were searched on October 27th, 2021 and eight articles were identified for review. Quality assessment was conducted using the Newcastle Ottawa Scale. Seven articles were included in meta-analysis for a pooled estimate of IRR across all skin cancers, malignant melanoma (MM), and non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSC). In total, 74,860 CD patients were followed for 710,214 person-years in the meta-analysis. Overall combined incidence was 99.8 cases per 100,000 person-years. Meta-analysis of all skin cancer incidence showed no significant difference in CD patients compared to controls (IRR: 1.06; 95% CI: 0.95, 1.17; p=0.29; I2: 0%). Five studies reported on MM incidence; there was no significant difference in incidence compared to controls (IRR: 0.87, 95% CI: 0.72, 1.06; p=0.22; I2: 9%). Five studies reported on NMSC incidence, revealing a significantly increased risk of NMSC in CD patients (IRR: 1.14; 95% CI: 1.01, 1.28; p=0.04; I2: 0%). Our findings suggest a significantly increased incidence of NMSC in CD patients compared to control data and no significant association between CD and MM incidence. The findings are limited by the quantity and quality of the evidence. Nonetheless, clinicians should emphasize the importance of sun protection, such as sunscreen usage and self-examination for patients with CD.
