Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is a highly prevalent, chronic disorder associated with impaired quality of life, societal burden, and poor treatment rates. Internet-delivered interventions may improve the accessibility of treatments and are increasingly being used. This study aimed to update a previous meta-analysis to determine the effectiveness of available Internet-delivered interventions in treating symptoms of GAD.
Systematic literature searches were conducted (through April 2020) using Embase, PubMed, PsychINFO, and Cochrane to find randomized controlled trials of Internet-delivered interventions for GAD. Risk of bias was evaluated, and Hedge's g was calculated at posttreatment and follow-up.
Twenty studies met eligibility criteria and were included in the meta-analysis. Random-effect models detected large effect sizes for primary outcomes of anxiety (g = 0.79) and worry (g = 0.75), favoring treatment. Effect sizes for depression, functional impairment, and quality of life were moderate to large. Maintenance of effects at follow-up seems likely.
Results support the effectiveness of Internet-delivered treatments for GAD. Considerable heterogeneity between studies appeared moderated by variability in the interventions themselves, highlighting the importance of further investigation into the characteristics that may optimize treatment outcomes. Overall, Internet-delivery appears to be a viable mode of treatment for GAD with potential to relieve existing gaps in the provision of treatment.

The effectiveness of Internet-delivered treatment for generalized anxiety disorder: An updated systematic review and meta-analysis.

Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a psychiatric condition characterized by severe instability in affect, impulse control, and interpersonal functioning. Existing literature has confirmed that BPD is highly comorbid with other psychiatric conditions, including anxiety disorders. Despite this, little research has investigated the nature of the relationship between generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and BPD. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to synthesize the literature concerning the prevalence and clinical outcomes of BPD and GAD comorbidity in adults. The following three databases were searched on October 27, 2021: PsycINFO, PubMed, and Embase. Twenty-four studies were included (n = 21 reporting on prevalence of the comorbidity, n = 4 reporting on clinical outcomes associated with the comorbidity), 9 of which were included in a meta-analysis. The meta-analysis showed that the pooled prevalence for current GAD in individuals with BPD was 16.4% (CI 95%: 1.9%; 66.1%) in inpatient samples, and 30.6% (CI 95%: 21.9%; 41.1%) in outpatient or community samples. The pooled lifetime prevalence of GAD in individuals with BPD was 11.3% (CI 95%: 8.9%; 14.3%) in inpatient samples, and 13.7% (CI 95%: 3.4%; 41.4%) in outpatient or community samples. Comorbidity between BPD and GAD was associated with worse outcomes on measures of BPD severity, impulsivity, anger, and hopelessness. In conclusion, this systematic review and meta-analysis indicate that comorbid GAD and BPD is highly prevalent, although the pooled prevalence rates should be interpreted with caution considering the large and overlapping confidence intervals. Further, this comorbidity is associated with worse BPD symptom severity.

The comorbidity between Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD): A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Research has demonstrated a strong link between intolerance of uncertainty and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). The current systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate how effective evidence-based psychological treatments are at reducing intolerance of uncertainty for adults with GAD. An extensive literature search identified 26 eligible studies, with a total of 1199 participants with GAD. Psychological treatments (k = 32 treatment groups) yielded large significant within-group effect size from pre- to post-treatment and pre-treatment to follow-up for intolerance of uncertainty (g = 0.88; g = 1.05), as well as related symptoms including worry (g = 1.32; g = 1.45), anxiety (g = 0.94; g = 1.04) and depression (g = 0.96; g = 1.00). Psychological treatment also yielded a large significant between-group effect on intolerance of uncertainty (g = 1.35). Subgroups analysis found that CBT that directly targeted intolerance of uncertainty (CBT-IU) throughout treatment was significantly more effective than general CBT at reducing intolerance of uncertainty (p < 0.01) and worry (p < 0.01) from pre- to post treatment, however, this result was not maintained at follow-up. Meta-regression analyses supported this finding as increases in the amount of time spent directly targeting intolerance of uncertainty, significantly increased the effect size for both intolerance of uncertainty (z = 2.01, p < 0.01) and worry (z = 2.23, p < 0.01). Overall, these findings indicate that psychological treatments are effective at reducing IU, and related symptom measures of GAD.

The impact of psychological treatment on intolerance of uncertainty in generalized anxiety disorder: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

We aimed to estimate the effect of mindfulness therapy on mental health.
Two researchers searched 12 databases to identify relevant trials that were published from 1 January 2018 to 1 May 2023. We performed a meta-analysis to determine the effect of mindfulness therapy on depression, which was measured by the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology (QIDS), Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS), Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), and Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS); anxiety, which was measured by the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), PROMIS, and DASS, Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7); stress, which was measured by the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), DASS, and GAD-7; mindfulness, which was measured by the GAD-7, Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ), Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), Short Form-12 Mental Component Score (SF-12 MCS) and Short Form-12 Physical Component Score (SF-12 PCS); and sleep quality, which was measured by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). After screening studies based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 11 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving 1,824 participants were ultimately included.
All these studies demonstrated positive effects of mindfulness therapy on depression (SMD = -0.33, 95% CI: [-0.44, -0.22], 
In future studies, it is necessary to consider the investigation on whether the strategies of improving the mindfulness therapy in adherence and fidelity can work on the improvement of the outcomes in mental health.

The efficacy of mindfulness-based interventions on mental health among university students: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Anxiety disorders (AD) are known for its comorbidity and negative impact on the course of adult bipolar disorder (BD). However, there is limited research on AD comorbidity in pediatric BD (PBD). Here, we aimed to conduct a meta-analysis and meta-regression study about the comorbidity and covariates of AD and PBD.
We systematically searched relevant articles published until May 2019, as defined in PRISMA guidelines. Variables for associated features and prevalence of AD were extracted.
Thirty-seven articles represented data for the analysis. Lifetime any AD comorbidity was 44.7%; panic disorder (PD) was 12.7%; generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) was 27.4%; social phobia was 20.1%; separation anxiety disorder (SAD) was 26.1%; and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) was 16.7%. Childhood-onset studies reported higher GAD and SAD comorbidity, while adolescent-onset studies reported higher PD, OCD, and social phobia. Age of onset, gender, comorbidity of ADHD, substance use, oppositional defiant disorder and conduct disorder affected each anxiety disorders' comorbidity with PBD differently.
Anxiety disorders are highly comorbid with PBD. Early-onset PBD increases the risk of AD. Biopsychosocial aspects of this comorbidity and its course needs to be evaluated further.

Anxiety disorders comorbidity in pediatric bipolar disorder: a meta-analysis and meta-regression study.

Anxiety disorders and anxiety symptoms are common mental disorders in the medically unwell and have significant impacts on patients' quality of life and engagement with psychiatric and medical services. Several systematic reviews have examined the prevalence of anxiety in specific endocrinology settings with estimates varying significantly from study to study. No meta-analysis has examined anxiety rates across the endocrinology outpatient setting. The aim of this meta-analysis is to provide endocrinologists with a precise estimate of the prevalence of anxiety - and impacting factors - in their outpatient clinics.
PubMed, Embase, Cochrane and PsycINFO databases and Google Scholar were searched to identify studies that assessed anxiety prevalence in endocrinology outpatients published up to 23 January 2023. This was part of a larger systematic review search of anxiety prevalence in common medical outpatient clinics. Data characteristics were extracted independently by two investigators. Studies of patients 16 years and older and representative of the clinic were included. The point prevalence of anxiety or anxiety symptoms was measured using validated self-report questionnaires or structured interviews. Fifty-nine studies with a total of 25,176 participants across 37 countries were included in this study. Our study provides evidence that anxiety occurs frequently amongst endocrinology outpatients and at a higher rate than is estimated in the general population. Given the impact anxiety has on patient outcomes, it is important that effective management strategies be developed to support endocrinologists in identifying and treating these conditions in their outpatient clinics.
