There are increasing calls for public health policies to realize the visions of a health literate society and health literacy on a global scale. However, there are still more gaps in what researchers recognize and what steps they should take to improve health literacy (HL) skills. This review aimed to measure the HL status of the Iranian population and the effect size of the underlying association between HL and other health outcomes, and to examine the effectiveness of HL interventions on improving the functional dimension of HL, self-efficacy, and health-promoting behaviors. All full text published articles written in English and Persian language were included from inception until January 2019, but the type of study is not limited. A total of 52 potentially relevant articles with data on 36,523 participants were included in this review. In the population with health conditions, the average HL score was 62.51 (95% CI: 59.95-65.08), while in the patient population, the HL score was 64.04 (95% CI: 60.64-67.45). Health literacy was positively and significantly correlated with self-care behaviors 0.42 (95% CI; 0.35-0.49), self-efficacy 0.35 (95% CI; 0.26-0.43), knowledge 0.50 (95% CI; 0.44-0.55), communication skills 0.33 (95% CI; 0.25-0.41), and health promotion behaviors 0.39 (95% CI; 0.35-0.44). The meta-analyses showed that overall, HL interventions significantly improved HL status, self-efficacy, and health promotion behaviors. Results indicate that HL status was in the range of marginal HL level in the Iranian population. Our finding highlights the beneficial impact of HL intervention on health-promoting behaviors and self-efficacy, particularly in low literacy/socioeconomic status people.

The Health Literacy Status and Its Role in Interventions in Iran: A Systematic and Meta-Analysis.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a kind of autoimmune disorder that has swept more than 2 million people worldwide and has caused multiple disabilities in the patients. Hearing loss(HL) is also one of the disabilities that numerous patients with multiple sclerosis (PwMS) experience.
We searched four databases: PubMed (Medline), Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase, from 1970 to July 2021. The gray literature containing the conference abstracts, review studies, and references of the articles was also investigated. We included any studies that reported PwMS with HL.
Out of 1875 articles, 1042 articles remained following eliminating duplicates. Afterward, all articles were screened, and 953 were eliminated based on exclusion criteria. Our analysis suggests that MS might increase the risk of HL , and it might be an indicator for MS diagnosis. More research with larger sample sizes is required.

Hearing loss among patients with multiple sclerosis (PwMS): A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Several studies suggested that high expression of Bcl2 and/or p53 in Hodgkin/Reed-Sternberg cells is an unfavorable prognostic factor in Hodgkin lymphoma (HL). However, results in this field appear contrasting. We aimed to assess the prognostic value of p53 and Bcl2 in HL through a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Electronic databases were searched from January 2000 to December 2020 for all studies assessing the prognostic value of p53 and Bcl2 in HL. The association of high p53 or Bcl2 expression with overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS) and response to treatment was assessed by using hazard ratio (HR) and odds ratio (OR).
Eighteen studies were included. Bcl2 overexpression was significantly associated with decreased PFS (HR = 2.202; p < 0.0001), while the associations with decreased OS (HR = 1.565; p = 0.257) and refractoriness to treatment (OR = 0.482; p = 0.068) were non-significant. p53 overexpression was not significantly associated with refractoriness to treatment (OR = 0.904; p = 0.155); the analysis of OS and PFS was not feasible, but published data suggested the absence of a significant association.
In HL, Bcl2 overexpression is associated with decreased PFS, while a significant prognostic value could not be demonstrated for p53. Defining optimal criteria for interpreting Bcl2 and p53 immunostaining is necessary to draw definitive conclusions.

Prognostic value of Bcl2 and p53 in Hodgkin lymphoma: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Affective disorders are a debilitating and very prevalent problem throughout the world. Often these are associated with the onset of comorbidities or a consequence of chronic diseases. Anxiety and depression are associated with poor social and personal relationships, compromised health. We aimed to synthesize evidence from studies measuring the impact of a health literacy (HL) intervention on the improvement of affective disorders.
For this systematic review and meta-analysis, we searched PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, Ibecs, Cuiden, Scielo, Science Direct and Dialnet for exclusively randomized controlled trial studies (RCTs) published between 1 Jan 2011, and 31 May 2022. The search terms employed were "health literacy," "health knowledge," "anxiety," "anxiety disorder," "depression," "depressive disorder," and "adult." The risk of bias assessment was performed using the Cochrane Collaboration Revised Risk of Bias tool (RoB2). We conducted random-effects meta-analyses and explored heterogeneity using meta-regression and a stratified survey.

Effectiveness of health literacy interventions on anxious and depressive symptomatology in primary health care: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

According to the prevalence of balance disorders among children with hearing loss (HL), researchers used exercise programs to improve balance in children with HL. So, the present systematic review and meta-analysis briefly summarize findings regarding the impacts of exercise training programs on balance in children with HL.
Science Direct, MEDLINE/PubMed, SCOPUS, LILACS, CINAHL, CENTRAL, Web of Science, PEDro, and Google Scholar were searched from inception until November 11th, 2023. Two independent researchers analyzed and extracted the data from potential papers whose eligibility was confirmed. Then, the PEDro scale was used to obtain quality assessment scores. The total PEDro score is 11 and incorporates the presentation of statistical analysis and evaluation criteria of internal validity. Studies that scored 7-11 were considered methodologically "high", 5 to 6 were "fair", and ≤4 were considered "poor".
10 studies involving a total of 304 participations were included in the systematic review. Our results demonstrate that exercise training programs positively impact static balance (p = 0.001) with level 1a evidence, the postural sway (p = 0.001) with level 1a evidence, and dynamic balance (p = 0.001) with level 1a evidence in children with HL.
The findings of this systematic review and meta-analysis related to studies with excellent methodological quality revealed that the intended training programs significantly impact postural sway along with static and dynamic balance in children with HL. It is recommended that future exercise training programs be paired with rehabilitation programs for children with HL.

The impacts of exercise training programs on balance in children with hearing loss: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

This systematic review explores the multifaceted nature of risk factors contributing to adult-onset HL. The objective was to synthesise the most recent epidemiological evidence to generate pooled proportional incidences for the identified risk factors.
We conducted an extensive search of electronic databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE, and psychINFO) for studies providing epidemiological evidence of risk factors associated with hearing loss. Topic modelling using Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) was first conducted to determine how many risk factor themes were available from the papers. Data were analysed by calculating the pooled proportional incidence using a meta-analysis of proportions.
From the 72 studies reviewed, six key risk factor themes emerged through LDA topic modelling. The review identified ototoxicity, primarily caused by cancer treatments and antibiotics, infectious diseases like COVID-19, occupational noise exposure, lifestyle factors, health conditions, biological responses, and age progression as significant risk factors for HL. The highest proportional incidence was found with cancer-related ototoxicity at 55.4% (95%CI: 39.0-70.7), followed closely by ototoxicity from infectious diseases at 50.0% (95%CI: 28.5-71.5). This high proportional incidence suggests the need to explore less destructive therapies and proactively monitor hearing function during treatments.
The findings of this review, combined with the synthesis of epidemiological evidence, enhance our understanding of hearing loss (HL) pathogenesis and highlight potential areas for intervention, thereby paving the way for more effective prevention and management of adult-onset hearing loss in our ageing global population.

Establishing multifactorial risk factors for adult-onset hearing loss: A systematic review with topic modelling and synthesis of epidemiological evidence.

There has been extensive research on the relationship between hearing and cognitive impairment in older adults but little examination of the role of mediating factors. Social isolation is a potential mediator, occurring because of hearing loss, and contributing to accelerated cognitive decline. Previous systematic reviews on this topic area have not considered the temporal nature of hearing loss and cognitive impairment exclusively or examined potential mediators within a longitudinal study design.
A systematic review was conducted. Electronic searches were performed in Web of Science, PubMed (Medline), Scopus, EMBASE, PsychInfo, and ProQuest (PsychArticles and ProQuest Dissertation and Theses) based on a search string of keywords relating to hearing loss, social isolation, and cognitive impairment/dementia in June 2023. Papers were critically appraised using the CASP checklists for cohort studies. Risk of bias in the selected studies was assessed using the Item Bank for Assessment of Risk of Bias and Precision for Observational Studies of Interventions or Exposures.
Eleven of the 15 included studies provide evidence of a dose-dependent association between hearing threshold (40 dB HL or greater) and later cognitive impairment or incident dementia. Only one study included social isolation as a mediator, which was found to not be a significant contributing factor. The meta-analysis of 5 studies pooled hazard ratio for cognitive impairment due to hearing loss is 1.11 (95% CI: 1.06 to 1.15, 
The analysis of included studies indicate that hearing threshold level affects later cognitive status or dementia diagnosis. There is not enough evidence to determine the role of social isolation as a mediator. Future epidemiology studies need to measure different elements of social isolation and ensure that hearing and cognition are measured at multiple time points.
