Acquired brain injury (ABI) is a leading cause of disability among children. An increasing number of programs have emerged to involve family members as an integral component of post-ABI rehabilitation. This study aimed to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of such programs among children with ABI.
Following PRISMA guidelines, search among six databases (PsycINFO, PsycARTICLES, Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, Cochrane CENTRAL) was conducted, followed by abstract/full-text screening and data extraction. Hedge's g was computed for effect sizes. The risk of bias was assessed using Cochrane guidelines. Meta-regression analyses were conducted on six moderators.
A total of 32 studies (reported in 37 articles) were included in the qualitative analysis. Meta-analysis of 20 studies showed a positive small-to-medium effect of family-oriented interventions on child and parental outcomes but not on family functioning. Study design moderated the effect sizes of parent outcomes.
This study synthesized the latest empirical evidence of family-oriented rehabilitation programs for pediatric ABI across interventional strategies, study designs, and outcomes. The findings suggested an overall beneficial impact of such programs on both the pediatric patients and their caregivers.

Family matters: A systematic review and meta-analysis on the efficacy of family-oriented interventions for children with acquired brain injuries.

Bipolar androgen therapy (BAT) is a new endocrinologic treatment for castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) that can restore some patients' sensitivity to drugs such as abiraterone (Abi) and enzalutamide (Enz). We performed a meta-analysis using STATA16. Sensitivity analyses were performed by examining the effects of individual studies using different effect models and detecting any publication bias using the Harbord test. In a total of 108 unique records, ten studies were included in the final meta-analysis. Participants who underwent BAT achieved a PSA50 response rate of 27% (95%CI [0.22,0.31], I2=17.98%), ORR of 34% (95%CI [0.24,0.43], I2=0), and incidence of AEs (grade≥3) of 14% (95%CI [0.09,0.19], I2=0). Patients who completed BAT proceeded to AR-targeted therapy (Abi or Enz) and achieved a PSA50 response rate of 57% (95% CI [0.36,0.78], I2=0). Patients with prior Enz resistance had a stronger impact on the PSA50 of AR-target therapy rechallenge. The results of this meta-analysis indicate that BAT is a safe and effective treatment for patients who have progressed after Abi or Enz. BAT can trigger the resensitization of patients with CRPC to subsequent endocrine therapy and improve the overall survival of patients and their quality of life.

Efficacy and safety of bipolar androgen therapy in castration-resistant prostate cancer following abiraterone or enzalutamide resistance: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Acquired brain injury is caused by traumatic or nontraumatic factors and causes changes in cognition. Several reviews have described the influence of the head-of-bed (HOB) elevation on clinical indexes such as intracranial pressure (ICP) and cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP). However, the conclusions were inconsistent. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the effects of HOB elevation in the care of the patients with ABI. METHODS: Two researchers independently screened the literature and extracted data. We searched PubMed, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and the Chinese Biological Literature Database to collect eligible randomized controlled trials published after September 2021. Reporting quality and methodological quality of the included studies were assessed by using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis and the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool. RESULTS : Eight studies were included in the meta-analysis. The results showed that, compared with the flat position, HOB elevation of 30° or 45° can significantly reduce ICP (mean difference [MD], -2.40 mm Hg; 95% confidence interval [CI], -3.19 to -1.61; P < .00001). However, there were no statistical differences in CPP (MD, -1.09; 95% CI, -3.93 to 1.75; P = .45), degree of disability at 90 days (relative risk, 1.01; 95% CI, 0.94-1.08; P = .83), and mean arterial pressure (MD, -0.44; 95% CI, -10.27 to 9.93; P = .93). CONCLUSION: Head-of-bed elevation of 30° can reduce ICP and maintain CPP, and may be an effective noninvasive nursing practice for the prognosis and rehabilitation of ABI patients. Owing to the lack of high-quality, large-sample randomized controlled trials, more rigorous trials are needed to support this conclusion.

Five databases were searched for literatures published from inception to October 2020. Cochrane Collaboration Tool for RCTs and ROBINS-I tool for quasi-experimental studies were used for quality assessment.

Effect of buerger allen exercise on foot perfusion among patient with diabetes mellitus: A systematic review & meta-analysis.

One strategy to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease is the early detection and treatment of atherosclerosis. This has led to significant interest in studies of subclinical atherosclerosis, using different phenotypes, not all of which are accurate reflections of the presence of asymptomatic atherosclerotic plaques. The aim of part 2 of this series is to provide a review of the existing literature on purported measures of subclinical disease and recommendations concerning which tests may be appropriate in the prevention of incident cardiovascular disease.
We conducted a critical review of measurements used to infer the presence of subclinical atherosclerosis in the major conduit arteries and focused on the predictive value of these tests for future cardiovascular events, independent of conventional cardiovascular risk factors, in asymptomatic people. The emphasis was on studies with >10 000 person-years of follow-up, with meta-analysis of results reporting adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% CIs. The arterial territories were limited to carotid, coronary, aorta, and lower limb arteries.
In the carotid arteries, the presence of plaque (8 studies) was independently associated with future stroke (pooled HR, 1.89 [1.04-3.44]) and cardiac events (7 studies), with a pooled HR, 1.77 (1.19-2.62). Increased coronary artery calcium (5 studies) was associated with the risk of coronary heart disease events, pooled HR, 1.54 (1.07-2.07) and increasing severity of calcification (by Agaston score) was associated with escalation of risk (13 studies). An ankle/brachial index (ABI) of <0.9, the pooled HR for cardiovascular death from 7 studies was 2.01 (1.43-2.81). There were insufficient studies of either, thoracic or aortic calcium, aortic diameter, or femoral plaque to synthesize the data based on consistent reporting of these measures.
The presence of carotid plaque, coronary artery calcium, or abnormal ankle pressures seems to be a valid indicator of the presence of subclinical atherosclerosis and may be considered for use in biomarker, Mendelian randomization and similar studies.
