This systematic review (SR) and meta-analysis aims to compare the surgery-related results and oncological outcomes between SH and RH in patients with early-stage cervical cancer.
We systematically searched databases including PubMed, Embase and Cochrane to collect studies that compared oncological and surgery-related outcomes between SH and RH groups in patients with stage IA2 and IB1 cervical cancer. A random-effect model calculated the weighted average difference of each primary outcome via Review Manager V.5.4.
Seven studies comprising 6977 patients were included into our study. For oncological outcomes, we found no statistical difference in recurrence rate [OR = 0.88; 95% CI (0.50, 1.57); P = 0.68] and Overall Survival (OS) [OR = 1.23; 95% CI (0.69, 2.19), P = 0.48]. No difference was detected in the prevalence of positive LVSI and lymph nodes metastasis between the two groups. Concerning surgery-related outcomes, the comprehensive effects revealed that the bladder injury [OR = 0.28; 95% CI (0.08, 0.94), P = 0.04] and bladder disfunction [OR = 0.10; 95% CI (0.02, 0.53), P = 0.007] of the RH group were higher compared to the SH group.
This meta-analysis suggested there are no significant differences in terms of both recurrence rate and overall survival among patients with stage IA2-IB1 cervical cancer undergoing SH or RH, while the SH group has better surgery-related outcomes. These data confirm the need to narrow the indication for RH in early-stage cervical cancer.

Simple hysterectomy versus radical hysterectomy in early-stage cervical cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

White spot lesion (WSL) is recognized as the first clinical sign of enamel caries; it is a very critical phase because it can be prevented from progression to frank caries by changing the surrounding destructive environment. The present study was undertaken to systematically review the effect of resin infiltration (RI) technique on surface hardness (SH) of WSL.
Five electronic databases were searched with proper key words. Related titles and abstracts, up to October 2018, were screened, selected, and subjected to quality assessments. After collecting data, meta-analyses were carried out to compare the effect of RI with untreated WSL and sound enamel by using the STATA software.
A total of 4567 articles were included in the study after initial search. Finally, 10 studies were reliable enough in methodology to be included in the study. The RI technique can enhance SH of WSL; however, regaining the SH of RI-treated WSLs similar to sound enamel is doubtful. Application of RI is more effective than other methods, including application of fluoride, enamel pro-varnish, adhesive, and colloidal silica infiltration for enhancing SH of WSLs.

Effect of Resin Infiltration Technique on Improving Surface Hardness of Enamel Lesions: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

In vitro cell systems can support hazard characterization and identify mechanisms involved in toxicity; however, using in vitro data for risk assessment still is challenging. As part of an effort to develop approaches for a complex operating site used for biocide packaging and distribution, we evaluated in vitro assays that could be used in a site management format. Across 66 studies, 108 pesticides were assessed on ten human-derived cell types at four endpoints. In vitro IC50s were compared to in vivo guidelines, NOEL/NOAELs, and ADIs using Spearman correlation and linear regression models. While human neuroblastoma cells (SH-SY5Y) were the most sensitive, HepG2 was the most used cell line in evaluating the toxicity of pesticides. Amongst the ten human cell lines, the IC50s derived from SH-SY5Y cells, using MTT-24 & 48 h (the most used assay) correlated (rho = 0.56-0.79; p < 0.05) with ADIs and NOEL/NOAELs. Although in vitro cell systems have some limitations, the correlation between in vitro data derived from SH-SY5Y cells and in vivo safety guidelines can provide site investigators with a tool to survey and prioritize areas and media of concern at complex operating sites impacted by pesticide mixtures.

Correlation between in vitro toxicity of pesticides and in vivo risk guidelines in support of complex operating site risk management: A meta-analysis.

Numerous studies have found an association between vitamin deficiency and thyroid disorders (TD). The presence of anti-parietal cell antibodies is indicative of reduced ability to absorb vitamin B12. Thus, this study reviewed the existing studies with the objective of assessing differences in the serum levels of vitamin B12 among patients with and without TD, the frequency of vitamin B12 deficiency in patients with TD, and the presence of anti-parietal cell antibodies in patients with TD.
A meta-analysis of random-effects model was conducted to calculate pooled frequencies, mean differences (MD), and their respective 95% confidence intervals (CI). We identified 64 studies that met our inclusion criteria (n = 28597).
We found that patients with hypothyroidism had lower vitamin B12 levels than healthy participants (MD: -60.67 pg/mL; 95% CI: -107.31 to -14.03 pg/mL; p = 0.01). No significant differences in vitamin B12 levels were observed between healthy participants and patients with hyperthyroidism (p = 0.78), autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD) (p = 0.22), or subclinical hypothyroidism (SH) (p = 0.79). The frequencies of vitamin B12 deficiency among patients with hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, SH, and AITD were 27%, 6%, 27%, and 18%, respectively.
Patients with hypothyroidism had lower levels of vitamin B12 than healthy participants. No significant differences were observed between vitamin B12 levels and hyperthyroidism, AITD, or SH.

Vitamin B12 levels in thyroid disorders: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

This study aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy and histological outcomes of autogenous demineralised dentin matrix (ADDM) as bone graft material compared with Bio-Oss® in bone augmentation for the treatment of patients with oral bone deficits. Eight databases (PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Science Direct, Scopus, Web of Science, CNKI, and WFPD) were searched for randomised controlled trials (RCT) performed from the date of inception of each database to July 2021. The Cochrane Collaboration's risk assessment tool was used to conduct the methodological quality assessment. Stata 15.0 software was used to perform data analysis. Seven RCTs including 220 patients were considered eligible for this study. No significant difference was found in the percentage of new bone formation (NBF) and implant stability quotient (ISQ). Patients who received ADDM grafting showed a significantly lower sinus height (SH) and percentage of residual graft material (RGM) compared with Bio-Oss® grafting. ADDM is as effective as Bio-Oss® in bone augmentation for oral bone defects.
